Spring/Summer Fashion Wishlist

Has anyone else programmed record on David Jones Spring/Summer Fashion Launch this Monday on Arena? I'm pretty excited. I love this time of year as the wardrobe is slowly overtaken with florals, pastels and a hint of neon. Chunky winter coats, knits and thermals are packed away for another brisk winter.

Meanwhile have you been into Cotton On Lately?! I swung past after work and picked up 7 shirts and 1 pair of pastel mint trousers. Here are a few of them. There was a big SALE happening, so I took full advantage.

How to organise your wardrobe in one weekend.

First things first, before you go tearing through your wardrobe, spend some time online or strolling through a few of your favourite shops, get a feel for the current trends and fabrics. GET INSPIRED!

This is important as it will helps to change your state of mind on your current wardrobe.

When you get home, section the project off. Maybe start with the folded stuff. Pull it all out. All of it!

Give the shelves a wipe down or lay down some new liners.

Now for the clothes... As you sort through, the question for the keep it or chuck it is " have I worn this in the last 6 months?" if no "can I picture a time I would ACTUALLY wear it in the next 2 weeks" if no - chuck it!

Understand that some items have sentimental value - like a band shirt or those hot pants you felt amazeballs in - maybe put these in a storage box, kept outside of your bedroom - but do not fold them back into the piles!

Speaking of storage boxes, use small clear (and stackable) storage boxes for your beanies, belts, thongs, bikinis, gloves etc - this is also handy through the seasonal changes you can rotate them easily.

Then voila! You should have something like this, or close to.

Speaking of wardrobes, a girl can dream....

One other tip worth noting, before you go and donate your car load of clothing, shoes, bags and belts to the local Salvo's, take a good look through it, is there something that is still in fashion or a pair of shoes you wonder why you bothered to buy? Maybe they can score you some cash on eBay. It might be a tedious task of photographing and loading each item up - but it could be worth it. 

I recently listed 10 items I didn't like anymore, but were just 'too good to throw out' - you know we all have them! Well, I only expected to fetch about $50 in total, but it all sold for a mammoth $170! So it definitely pays (literally!) to clean out your wardrobe.

Things I learnt from Susanna Lau, creator of Style Bubble

Recently I won 2 x tickets to see the amazing and successful Susanna Lau talk about her famous blog Style Bubble, thanks to an online competition run by Sportsgirl. I took one ticket and offered one lucky reader of MB Captured to come along as my +1. I was so delighted to meet the winner, Miranda O'Brien from Curious Owl Candles, on the day.

I will be honest and admit I am not a big fashion blog follower, I have a couple of favourites (Lady Melbourne and Gary Pepper/Fellt) and until the competition, I wasn't a follower of Style Bubble. Though, when I won the tickets I was excited, as a blogger and a graphic design student I felt I could gain something.

I would also like to add, I felt a bit of pressure to wear something good, I mean there were going to be fashion bloggers here! I went with my heart and decided to wear all Sportsgirl since they provided me with the ticket!

My outfit

There is an old rule when attending such events, if you only take 1 really valuable lesson away it was worth it. This event was definitely worth it.

As Susie took us on a journey through the beginning of her blog, the hurdles, the highlights and her view of her success to date, It was clear this lady was one modest, down to earth, fun and laid back creature.

She discussed the pressure of a blog, how to stay ahead of the game and continue to perform. The key message that resonated with me after the event is to never take the blog seriously, don't over think it - always treat it as a hobby, the rest will come.

Strangely enough, Susie said she doesn't think she would start a blog in today's market if she didn't already have one. Six years ago, fashion blogs were extremely rare and it was her unique take on it that helped her see such fast success across the globe.

It did get me thinking on the drive home, what do I want to achieve from MB Captured? I can't even really define what it is that I blog about. A jack of all trades and master of none. I don't really expect anything to come of it, but I am enjoying every second. This blog so far has introduced me to some great people, opened me up to some great opportunities - like assisting with event decor at a wedding this November and also be the photographer at a wedding in October, and importantly given me an outlet to share my ideas and views.

I will take this opportunity to give you a big (cyber) heartfelt thank you hug, it makes me so happy reading your emails, comments and/or discussions about my blog. I look forward to continuing my journey through the blog with you.

How does he do it?

Last year I was lucky enough to see the Alex Perry show in the flesh, Cuban Princess. However, this year with the wedding bells soon to be rung, I didn't get to partake in any L'Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival activities.

Anyway, as a nice distraction from the upcoming nuptials, I would like to spend a moment to drool over this recent runway show, presented by Alex Perry. This man can never make a bad dress. Seriously.

Pre-Wedding Engagements

In the flurry of excitement leading up to our big day, my diary is booking up with dinner dates, bridal shower, hens weekend, rehearsal dinner - heck! - even an engagement party - (not ours).

Since being distracted on decor, stationery and all things wedding, I have severely neglected my wardrobe this season. Now it is time for a little 'me time'. I am still getting my eyelash extensions, which have improved my self confidence times a million, along with my amazing range of make-up from The Body Shop. I am ready to rock with a frock (which I am currently in need of many). Here is my current list of "I need to own or I might die" dresses.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s anyone?

Not many girls will say they travelled to the other side of the world to buy their wedding ring from the one-and-only Tiffany & Co New York! Infact, some might say it is a little over the top, bit too much or even materialistic! But hey, I justified it in November 2011 by meeting up with a beautiful close friend who, earlier this year, gave up her havianas, beach days and sweltering heat for duffle coats, yorkshire pudding and apparently now an Irish boy!

Funnily enough I read on ‘In Spaces Between’ blog post this morning that Virgo’s are all about quality not quantity, which, as a Virgo, couldn’t be truer! Luckily, my (now) fiancé had it in the bag, when he proposed with a beautifully timeless Tiffany Setting engagement ring earlier this year, everything about it represents us – quality, modest, almost flawless, timeless romance.

I don’t remember the exact moment I was truly exposed the amazingness of this jeweller, but all I am sure of is that I haven’t looked back! I thought I would share my obsession; perhaps it will prompt a new support group…. Tiffany’s Anonymous (TA) anyone??

Oh, and yes – the trip across the globe to Tiffany & Co New York was well worth it. Six levels (SIX!!) of sparkles – many ‘oooohhhs’ and ‘aahhhhs’ walking through here. We all have our weaknesses, right?!?

Relive your childhood with Peter Alexander

When the name Peter Alexander is mentioned, you would immediately think of comfy, super soft adorable pj's. 

Quiet nights in were never as glamorous before his designs made it to our drawers. However, never before have I been so excited or ready to spend obscene amounts of money on pj's like now.

His recent limited edition Disney collection is outstanding. I have included a few of my fav’s but the collection is worth seeing (and buying) for yourself. So gorgeous! Xx

Brownlow Medal - Local designer featured!

Cuban Princess

Earlier this year I was lucky enough to attend the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Alex Perry runway show for spring/summer 2011/12. The ever beautiful Megan Gale opened the show in a dress I have been fantasizing of ever since! These dresses are so dreamy and could be worn anywhere! I am thinking some beautiful multi-coloured bridesmaides dresses or draw dropping party dresses! They will be released in October this year! Can't wait! Xx
