The Art of Happiness

Tuesday, 14 February 2012

Sometimes life gives you a hard blow, a bitter pill to swallow or reason to question the universe. In these moments of reflection, pain and suffering we must take a valuable lesson, a life strengthening moment, with us.

The choices we make about the kind of person we want to be are within our control. We can chose to be upset and frustrated, which means we can miss out on other opportunities or chose to be happy and see the good in a situation.

While working in Thailand (scrubbing elephant food), a Dutch lady next to me said that she had learnt the Western Culture is extremely spoilt, we have the power to not only have have food, water and shelter, but material possesions, travel, entertainment etc, hence we become depressed looking for the meaning of life. When you go to a Third World Country they have nothing yet are so happy, the basic necessity (if they are lucky) for survival, they seek happiness and love from one another.

It is not secret I love social media, I have re-ignited so many old friendships and even created new ones through Facebook and Twitter. However, so often now I see my news feed flooded with misery on trivial matters, why shouldnt we use it to share funny stories from our day, daily gratitudes and happiness?

Reflect back over your journal, facebook or chat with your close friends or family, are you being the kind of person you want to be? Or are you becoming consumed with deadlines, work, traffic jams and 9-5? Sometimes self relfection can be ugly and scary, but it can also be the biggest learning curve and pathway to a beauty-full life!

This post is not here to send you on a mad dash to find the true meaning of life or buy out the 'self-help' section of your local bookstore, it is just a simple reminder that happiness is all you need and it is already in your life, you just need to let it shine through.

Oh, and Happy Valentines Day ! Xx -Remember - Love comes in all forms, this is one of mine. - Spread the love! (Inspiration for this 'outfit' was found at Pretty Fluffy Blog)

  1. What a fabulous post! I feel the same way about social media and sometimes have to unfollow people that I really like in order to stop ingesting their negativity. I think people tend to find it easier to focus and complain about negative things rather than switch their mindset onto positive. Hopefully this changes as people start to realise that it starts with a cheery thought!
